Mothers Day Recap 2012

It’s Sunday night. I have come up to my computer to look at pictures from the day, exhausted in the best way possible. Today was Mother’s Day.

Today all the people I love the most in the world were gathered together.

We dedicated this beautiful boy at church this morning.

We played together at my parents’ house.

We took family pictures.

We swam in the pool.

We laughed A LOT.

And finally ended it by going out to dinner at Mimis and crawling back to the house, content and tired.

Hudson requested Taylor Swift’s song, The Best Day, at least six times today and you better believe I sang it at the top of my lungs every time.

“Now I know why all the trees change in the fall,
I know you were on my side, even when I was wrong.
And I love you for giving me your eyes
And standing back and watching me shine.
I didn’t know if you knew, so I’m taking this chance to say
That I had the best day with you today.”

I had the best day with these today:

I am all swallowed up in love. All swallowed up in these children who love me. If you had told me 5 1/2 years ago–when I fell on that floor because I realized I was only three months married and pregnant–if you had told me how full my life was going to become, I wouldn’t have believed you.

Who could have imagined these three, the jewels of my life? I love being a mother. It’s the best thing that ever happened to me. And I don’t care one bit that I never got that high-powered job, never became a journalist, never ran for public office. I don’t care that most days my “work” clothes are Nike pants and a fitted tee rather than those cute dresses and skirts I used to wear to the office.

Sweet morning breath. Blue eyes. Abby’s little legs in pink Crocs. Hudson’s mop of blonde hair and the way it dries after the pool. Stryder’s hands and toes on the ground, his little bum up in the air.

These are irreplaceable. I have found exactly what I want from life.

I am very, very blessed.

Happy Mother’s Day to my children, who gave me the best job. Darlings, I had the best day with you today.
