Little Blue House

IMG_3479Hello everyone! You may have noticed that I’ve been missing lately. (If you haven’t, that’s totally fine too!). The HUGE NEWS is that we bought a house!! We have never owned a home before, and the whole thing has been an amazing, tiring, interesting, wonderful, and inspiring process. I can’t explain all the details in this quick post, but our new home is a dream come to and an answer to prayers in so so so many ways. Over the summer we experienced what I am now calling Life Whiplash when we decided not to move to Oregon (it was a dream of many years) but stay in Southern California instead. Sometimes old dreams are replaced with new ones and changing your mind can lead to beautiful opportunities you never imagined.

IMG_3461To keep a long story short (for now) this is our Little Blue House! It is a Sungold Bungalo, built in 1953 and was the height of fashion in it’s day with floor-to-ceiling windows along the back wall of the house. There are three bedrooms, two bathrooms, wood floors, original built-ins, and plenty of charm. Oh, and so many more little details I can’t wait to share with you!

IMG_3480We are decorating the whole house in Mid Century Modern style and it’s already so beautiful inside that it takes my breath away every time I walk into the living room. I can’t believe I get to live here! Every morning, when I pull up the shades and look down our quiet, tree-lined street and see the sun rays shining through the branches as the sun rises, I am reminded that “No eye has seen, no ear has heard,  no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him.” (reference)

IMG_3508The best part is that for the first time in my life I’m not waiting for something new or better to happen. I’m not waiting to move out of state. I’m not waiting to finally buy a house and put my love into a HOME. I’m not waiting to invest in my community. I’m not waiting to make friends with my neighbors, or to decorate the kids room. I am–our whole family is–simply available to the life God is currently giving us. No more waiting, just joyfully living

For example, it feels good to buy plants and know that I will be around to see them grow. In all likelihood, I will get to watch my friends’ kids grow up. I can’t even believe my good fortune.

IMG_3487More pictures of the inside are coming, but you know me, I can’t resist the urge to finish decorating the living room before I share pictures with you.

In the meantime, check out my Midcentury Modern Home Inspiration board on Pinterest to get an idea of where we are going with things. I drool every time I scroll through it!

Thanks for stopping by and reading. I can’t wait to share this new journey with you, and all the new DIYs and crafts I’m learning along the way. (Hint: I’ve started weaving! OMG, you won’t believe the very LARGE wall hanging my friends and I are making.) If you want to see more of the process, look me up on Instagram (@cailamade). I will be posting more now that we are settled in and all the spoons have been put away.

Blessings to each one of you!

Owning a house and knowing that you will stay there is just so wonderful! We built our house and moved in three years ago and all the bonding with our neighbours, with the parents and kids at the Kindergarten etc. is just so wonderful. It’s simply the best. I wish you a wonderful start to your new life. Enjoy it every single day!

God bless you and your family in your new home. The Lord does provide. I know that I am not the only person who has enjoyed seeing your designs for little girls without knowing your circumstances, but we
all wish you joy, happiness, and good health for many years to come.
