Friday details

It’s Friday, which always feels like a casual day even though I’m not working outside the home and my husband doesn’t have an eight-to-five kind of job. But since it feels like Friday anyway, I thought I’d pass along a few bloggy details to any of you who are interested. That seems like a casual-day thing to do, right?

You can scroll down to the bottom of the post to see some of my favorite pictures from the week. Why? Because what is the point of a post without pictures? None, I tell you. None.

Okay, so first I’ll be making some changes to my header and side bar this weekend. If you’ve been visiting Caila-Made for a few months you will have noticed that I change my layout a lot. That’s because I’m still figuring out the “feel” of this blog and finding the right way to present it. Thanks for sticking with me through the changes. I hope to come up with something that is simple, bright, and welcoming for my readers. For whom I am very thankful, by the way. πŸ™‚

Second, I’ve been working on some patterns lately that should be up on the blog in the form of a tutorial/free pattern download by the middle of next week. The shorts are coming along nicely and the basic version, at least, is ready. Shorts are the new skirt!

The other pattern I’ve been working on is my Tied Summer Dress in three sizes, which will also be offered as a free download. I’m so new at this pattern stuff; I’d love to have some of you try these patterns out and let me know how they work for you. I’m not charging for these because, obviously, I’m new at this and what if they aren’t 100% perfect? Plus, I LOVE it when I come across free patterns for kids clothes, so I want to return the favor. If any of you make these items I will be so excited my husband probably won’t hear the end of it for weeks. πŸ™‚

And the last piece of news I have to share is that I recently picked up a freelance writing project, so I might have less posts each week than usual for the next couple of months. I usually pick up a job once a year for the extra cash-flow and to keep my skills sharp. This time I’m working with a really great company that I’ve worked with in the past and I love what I’m writing.

As a stay-at-home mom I’ve had to learn the balance between devoting myself to my kids and home, and developing my own skills and talents as a writer. It’s not always easy, believe me. I never want to miss one moment of my children growing up (one reason I’m a SAHM), and yet a part of me must always work towards being better at the thing I love to do most. The thing is, I didn’t stop being me when I became a mom.

That’s one reason I love this blog. It’s small and it’s new, but it gives me an outlet. A place to talk about what I love to do (sew! design! create!) and the children I love. And the simple act of typing words on a keyboard is something this girl simply needsΒ to do on a day to day basis.

So, thanks for reading. Thanks for visiting my little space. And to those of you who leave me comments, thank you. You have no idea how much it means.

Have a wonderful weekend, everyone. Tata for now. πŸ™‚

Congrats on the job, Caila! And seriously, you could make millions just pumping out model-children… those are the cutest kids I’ve ever seen!

Love the pics of your three towheads:) So amazingly adorable! And from I can tell on your blog, you are going a great job of balancing being “mom” and being “you”. I so appreciate you taking the time to post on your blog and love reading what you have to share. Good luck with your freelance job – may it help to keep your skills sharp and of course, bring in a little “rainy day” money.
