Better pictures of my blue Washi

A couple of weeks ago I promised some better pictures of my blue Washi dress. You know, because the other ones were taken at 2:00 a.m. in the bathroom mirror. *Wince and shudder at the memory of being up so late.*

Well, it took a little while, but here are those better pictures!

I love the way the shirring lines draw in the waist so beautifully in the back. For those of us who are *bigger* up top, this helps to compensate for bustiness. No one wants a big bust if it makes her look large all over–but if a dress allows you to have a bust AND a small waist… Well, then. Life is perfect.

I forgot to mention in my last post about this dress that I made some adjustments to the front skirt to accommodate my bodice. If you remember, I blended a size XL front bust with a Medium size everywhere else (the shoulders of the front bodice are M, too). The only problem with this is that I didn’t have enough fabric in the front skirt for all six pleats, so I reduced the number to four. On my Washi there are only two pleats on each side.

Of course, I could have used a larger size for the front skirt and kept all six pleats, but I didn’t want the skirt to be too full. If this dress was made using a lighter apparel fabric, that would be fine, but it’s made with quilting cotton which has a lot of body.

My awesome sister-in-law took these pictures for me and we had a lot of fun. I was acting like such a goof, she could hardly get any pictures of me with a normal smile. See:

Laughing. Always laughing.

In the end she was able to get this one, and that made her happy. Thanks sister!

I LOVE it even more w/ the great pics! The fabric & lace are just beautiful. I didn’t even notice that you left off a pleat…..way to make it work. It looks great on your figure. I just printed out my pattern this am. That’s as far as I’ve gotten. I’m concerned that I am going to have to do a SBA (small-bust adj.). Gonna make a quick muslin first to make sure 🙂 Your pics are spurring me on!!

Can you post a picture of your blended pattern? I’m not sure what that means and as the washi muslin I made didn’t fit (small in the bust, loose at arm and neck) I’m wondering if your idea would work. You look great!
