Best of Summer 2013!

I’m so excited, you guys! Last fall, my Best of Fall series was so much fun I decided to do it again, but this time for SUMMER SEWING. Awesome, right?
If you’re anything like me, your kids are almost out of school, your blood is moving again and you are ready for some simple and satisfying summer projects. When I think of summer sewing, I think of light, breezy play clothes that make me want to go to the beach. Well, the good news is that over the next three weeks, I have some incredible bloggers lined up to share with you about their favorite sewing patterns and tutorials for summer kids clothes
It’s going to be totally awesome!
My goal for this series is to create a space where we can encourage each other in summer sewing, introduce each other to new pattern designers, and share tips on what fabrics and colors are best for the summer of 2013. I’ll be sewing some outfits and sharing them with you periodically throughout the next few weeks, and I also have some giveaways in the works. More on that later, but for now…
HOW CAN YOU BE INVOLVED?
I would LOVE for you to be involved! The official hashtag for the series is #bestofsummersewing, but I also plan on using the abbreviated hashtag #BOSS, because that’s just awesome. Post your summer sewing projects on Instagram using the hashtag #bestofsummersewing and I’ll feature my favorites on IG every Friday!
Please feel free to take a button for the series (above) and put it in your sidebar. Since I’d love for YOU GUYS to be involved, I also created a Flickr group for the series. Every Saturday I’ll choose a few of my favorites from the Flickr group to feature in a BEST OF SUMMER SEWING roundup (get it? B.O.S.S) and they will be eligible to win some really cool patterns and fabric. The rules for the Flickr group are as follows:
  • You don’t have to sew anything new for this series, but please only include items sewn after April 1, 2013.
  • Kids clothes only.
  • If you would like your photo featured here, please don’t include many words on your image. A light watermark is fine.
  • Please specify if you don’t want your image shared here at CailaMade.
I think that’s all! Now… go join the Flickr group
Below is the BEST OF SUMMER Guest Blogger Schedule. Take a second to lick on the links and visit these incredible ladies. I can’t wait to see what they share with us over the next few weeks!

And finally, before I go I’d like to share a little bit about my own favorite pattern for summer sewing. You’ve seen me post about it before: it’s the Roly-Poly Pinafore by Imagine Gnats! I’ve made two more since the last one and I’m so happy with both of them.
This is my favorite summer pattern for a few reasons:
  1. It’s quick to sew and doesn’t require a lot of fabric.
  2. The sleeveless design and open back are breezy for our hot California summers.
  3. My daughter feels pretty in it.
  4. I can mix and match fabrics.
  5. I get a lot of compliments when she wears it out.
Enjoy a few more pictures of my silly-billy in her Roly-Poly. Fabric information is at the bottom. Thanks for reading, friends!

And one more Roly-Poly:

Love the roly poly sundress. Where did you get the fabric? What is the brand and name of same? Do you have a pattern for the dress? A lot of questions I know. Hope to get your reply. Have great granddaughter to sew for. Thanks for your reply.
