A FRESH Challenge {and REAL progress}

Can we really be four days into April already? I owe you all some progress reports for my REAListic Beauty and Fitness Challenge! Things have been, whoa, busy around here but I think we are finally emerging into some normalcy. I hope we are, because I have tons of laundry to do and Easter dresses to make for Abby and myself. I only have four days left to work on them, so we’ll see. 🙂

Yet somehow, in the midst of all this craziness I’ve kept running! Every day I face some reason or other not to exercise but I push through. My consistent running started about 2 weeks ago as part of my REAListic Beauty & Fitness Challenge, and I’ve already worked up to 4.5 miles!

Last week I ran it twice, and I plan on running it again today. Sometimes I feel great and other times I don’t, but that’s the life of a runner. At least even when it feels awful I’m out there under the blue California sky, thinking my own thoughts and breathing in the fresh air. 🙂

Now, for something exciting! Last week I came across the Get FRESH Challenge by The Mommy Miles: a challenge to work out for all 30 days in April. At first I thought, all 30 days?! I’ve never worked out for 30 days in a row before! How can I make that REAListic?

But the truth is, I walk with the kids most days even when I’m not running. So maybe this is possible!

I joined the challenge, but I need YOUR help to say accountable! Ideally, I’d love to have a partner to do this with. Someone who is also doing the challenge and will ask me how I’m doing. Are you in? If so, you can sign up at The Mommy Miles, and leave me a comment below.

Here’s my plan:

Run 4x/week: 4.5 miles, 3 miles, 5.5 miles, 4.5 miles
Walk 3x/week: 4.5 miles, 3 miles,
Strength exercises interspersed

I do push ups, squats, lunges, and other arm exercises at the park while the kids play 3 times a week.

The total number of miles I walked and ran in the last week is at least 20 miles. I didn’t keep very good records, so I can’t totally be sure. But I’m still proud of that number! In case you’re looking for a run/walk tracker, I use the Runtastic app on my iPhone. It uses the GPS to track my route and distance, pace, etc. The only problem I occasionally run into is that I forget to turn it on, or worse, forget to turn it off when I’m done.

So, I know what you’re wondering. Has Caila actually lost any weight doing all this exercise? The answer is yes! I don’t have a current number, but in the first 10 days I lost 2.5 pounds. I try not to weigh myself very often because I find it so much more satisfying to wait 2 weeks and then be happily surprised by the number.

How do I feel? Right now I feel strong and healthy. I’m so glad I brought running and walking back into my life!

Thanks for reading friends! I’ll have a post on Easter dresses for you soon. I’m so excited to sew again!

    I’ve taken the 30 day challenge as well. I almost text you last night to see how it was going for you. Now I know! Keep us the great work! My steps are a bit smaller…I’m trying to get at least 20 minutes of physical activity everyday. Sunday, we walked house to house delivering flyers for almost 2 hours. Monday- Pilates video(Abs) Tuesday- Pilates video (upper body). Today- walking during my lunch break. Please check in with me to see how I am doing!!
